Cori Holquinn graduated from Western Washington University in December of 2018 with a Bachelor of Music in Performance. In 1999, at the age of ten, she was given a violin and entered the elementary strings program in her fifth grade year. Spending a year and a half studying violin, and growing progressively more frustrated with it, she then switched to the cello during the middle of her sixth grade year by the suggestion of her orchestra teacher and she never looked back. She has studied cello performance closely with both Chip Bergeron and John Friesen, as well as having the fortunate opportunity to participate in masterclasses with cellists such as Joshua Roman, Johannes Moser, Lynn Harrell, Amit Peled, and Colin Carr. Now that she has graduated, Cori is building her private teaching studio in Bellingham and teaches both out of home and at Bellinghome School of Music. She is also currently in the process of learning how to make and repair string instruments and hopes to one day open an instrument shop of her own to provide repair services and accept build commissions. Cori plays on a 1949 Canadian made cello by J.W. Lee that is slightly smaller in dimensions than a standard cello and beyond this, little more is known about the instrument.

Cori’s influences range drastically from baroque and classical, to metal and dubstep, and everything in between. She has had many influential characters in her life including, but not limited to, Mstislav Rostropovich, David Bowie, Jaqueline DuPre, Freddie Mercury, Antonin Dvorak, Steven Isserlis, Yo-Yo Ma, Dan Avidan, Daft Punk, and of course her mom.

Current Projects:

Cori is currently a performing member of both the Bellingham Symphony Orchestra and the North Cascades Community Orchestra. Along with performing, she is also apprenticing with a luthier to learn how to make and repair orchestral instruments. She is working at Mojo Music as their in-house repair tech for orchestral instruments.
