Bio
Alex Amick is a Washington native from Whidbey Island. He has been studying classical piano under his current instructor, Dr. Kay Zavislak, for five years and studying collaborative piano under the instruction of Professor Jeffrey Gilliam for two years. His accomplishments include being the winner of the Senior Division of MTNA in the year 2018 (Washington), winner of the 2022 WWU Concerto Competition, recipient of second ranking in the 2021 Virginia Glover Competition, and recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship of the College of Fine and Performing at WWU.
Currently, Alex is involved in collaborative work at Western Washington University and high schoolers, serving as a performer for instrumental soloists. His major project is with the Bellingham Festival Chorus, with whom is collaborating with Wendy Bloom for Mozart's Mass in C minor. He will be pursuing a Masters in Music in the fall of 2024.
Influences
Alex’s most profound influence comes from the Croatian pianist Ivo Pogorelich. Non-musical influences include Gabriel García Márquez and Caravaggio.
Current Projects
Currently, Alex is preparing for a Senior recital for December of 2022. He is also considering to continue his performance studies for a graduate program and is preparing repertoire for auditions.
