Join Our Summer Singing Adventure!

Dive into the world of music this summer with our fun-filled Elementary Summer Choir Class! In this 6-week course, students will engage in various singing activities including fun vocal warmups, musical games, and multi-part singing. These sessions are crafted to build essential musical skills in a teamwork-focused environment. The course will end with a pizza party and a concert performance! Performance location/time TBD. 

Ages: 8-12 (grades 3-6)

Summer Group Class

Bluegrass 101

What: Bluegrass 101 (Group Class)

When: Tuesdays 6:30-8pm June 18th- July 23rd.

Ages 11+

Where: Bellinghome School of Music

Who: Led by Kian Dye

Requirements: Ages 11+, at least 1 year of experience on your instrument, ability to play simple melodies and chord progressions. Maximum of 8 people.

Instruments allowed: Fiddle, Mandolin, Acoustic Guitar, Bass, Banjo, Dobro

Description: Led by local musician and educator Kian Dye, this six-week course will have you learning to play and sing classic bluegrass songs as part of a small group of fellow aspiring pickers. Along with learning some of the most well-known and loved bluegrass songs, we will also be looking into the historical and cultural contexts behind these songs and the artists who wrote and performed them. 

Bluegrass 101 is geared towards individuals with at least one year of experience on their instrument, an interest in bluegrass music, and a desire to learn and grow as musicians

In addition to weekly in-person meetings, you will also be provided with weekly reading and listening assignments relating to that week’s topic. You will be expected to spend 3-5 hours outside of class each week practicing, reading, and listening in order to show up prepared and ready to participate in class.

All materials will be provided by the instructor. A computer, decent speakers or headphones, access to the internet, and a place to practice are all required in order to fully engage with the course materials.

Group Keyboard & Music Games

With Orion Lackey

Ages - 9-11

Thursdays 3:30p-5p

July 18th - August 22nd (6 week session)

This musical group keyboard class will be facilitated by Orion Lackey who has over 6 years of experience teaching group music classes and one-on-one piano lessons. He will help the students in his class learn the basics of playing the keyboard as well as music theory through fun and creative musical games and activities. There will be 8 keyboards provided in this class (for in-class use) and students will learn how to use/explore various tones, scales, chords, music notation, improvisation, and composition. Students will gradually develop musical proficiency throughout this course and will have a celebration in the last week where students can have the option to perform.

Beginner piano and improvisation

Location: Bellinghome School of Music, 2512 Meridian St., Bellingham, WA

This class will be taught by McKenzie Bandy, a local jazz/funk keyboardist in the Bellingham community who also teaches lessons at Bellinghome! McKenzie will introduce students to piano basics, technique, rhythm and counting, chords and harmony, and improvisation. With 8 keyboards available to students during group lessons, this class is a mixture of hands-on learning, instruction, and group activities! Our last lesson day (August 19th) will be devoted to a celebration and improv jam session showcasing all that we’ve learned over the past 6 weeks! Hope to see you there!
